Lobina Rico Suave

10-25-2009

Lobina Lures has long been known for having one of the best topwater popping baits, the Rico.  Years ago, Lobina Lures also had one of the original and hottest walking baits on the market as well, the Rico Suave.  The Suave's production halted in the mid 1990's when the company moved production factories in Japan, and the molds were lost.  Many of the original Suaves were so popular and hard to find that anglers were paying well over $100 to get their hands on one bait.  We've been waiting for years for their to be a re-release, and now the wait is over!

The new and improved Suave is now created from an injected hard plastic identical to it's brother the Rico.  It features a weight transfer system to help it achieve distance on the cast, and help it keel on the walk.  The baits movement is that much of a Sammy, but with a little more slice, and a slight bit more of a knock.

I like to use the Suave as an in-between bait between the Vixen and the Sammy.  It's closest competition would be the Lucky Craft Gunfish, but the two have very different styles.  The Suave is more at home as a finesse topwater bait, slicing and darting the water with ease.  I think anglers will find this bait becoming their go-to walking bait after giving it a shot.

California Swimbabes Slippery E

04-11-2009

California Swimbabes has raised the bar again with the release of the newest member of the "E" family, the Slippery E.  Based on the same design of the popular Baby E and Tiny E, the Slippery E incorporates the great traits of the Baby E while creating a completely weedless swimbait with the new belly slit.

The Slippery E is sized between the Baby E and Tiny E, and have a slit on the belly to allow a single wide gap hook for rigging.  The shape of the body causes the bait to wobble side to side while the paddle tail kicks hard in the back.

The bait is rigged best with a 6/0 or 8/0 weighted Owner Beast Hook.  You need the gap of the Beast to insure good hookups due to the thickness of the bait.  The 6/0 works well when fishing shallow.  The 8/0 is perfect for getting the bait deeper, or for burning the bait back in.  When rigged correctly, the Slippery E will not roll at any speed.

The bait is available in 7 colors, including 3 new colors for California Swimbabes; Snowflake White, Hologram Shad, and Green E.

Roboworm EZ Shad Swimbaits

04-06-2009

Roboworm has upped the anty with one of the best paddletail swimbaits to hit the market.  The Roboworm EZ Shad combines the action of a crankbait with the tail kick of a swimbait!  The bait vibrates back and forth while swimming through the water.  The baits have a slot on the belly like most paddle tails to insure good hook ups.  The baits also have a slot on the top of the swimbait which allow the point of the hook to lay between two dorsal fins of the swimbait, which creates a virtually weedless swimbait.

The baits run best with a 5/0 or 6/0 weighted hook.  The package recommends a 4/0, but trust me it is way too small.  I was using a 6/0 weighted screwlock Gamakatsu hook and a 6/0 wieghted Owner Beast hook, and both worked equally well.
