How to choose colors?
03-01-2009

Question:

I was wondering how do you choose a color when fishing roboworms on a drop shot?  There are so many colors to choose from, and I am needing help in deciding when to throw what color.

Thanks,

Matt - Vista, CA

Answer:

Matt,

This is a question I get asked a lot, and realy one that I think has a lot of different answers.  Personaly, I like to keep it simple.  I have 3 or 4 crawfish colored worms, and a couple shad colored worms, and that's it.  What I decide, is what is the water clarity, and what do I think the fish are feeding on.  If I beleive the fish are feeding on crawfish, then I take out my craw patterns, and choose the correct one based on water clarity.  If the water is crystal clear, I choose a color that in a little lighter in color, such as People's Worm or The Hook Up Special.  If the water was a little stain to it, then I'll choose a darker craw pattern, such as Green Pumpkin Neon or Koller Kraw.  If I believe the fish are feeding on shad, then I usually start with Chartreuse Shad in stained water, and Morning Dawn in clear water, which both mimic baitfish perfectly.

Sometimes on certain bodies of water a specific color is really hot, and maybe you add that to your arsenal.  But the colors I listed above are my go-to's, and really catch fish everywhere I go.

I hope this helps!  Good luck!
